The present homestead on Taruna Farm was built in 1974 and has extensive views East over a circular Ha-Ha wall into the beautiful Whitehall Valley and the volcanic rocks of a long-since extinct river bed. This is Middle Earth country, the filming of some of the sequences in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy were shot nearby.
The homestead was constructed by Filleul Brothers of Cambridge and is made of summit stone, vertical weather boards milled on the property, long run iron roof cladding and aluminium joinery.
The homestead, surrounded by pockets of mature stands of native bush, is positioned to observe the sunrise to the East. It includes five bedrooms, three living areas - formal lounge, family room and sun room, formal dining room, a large farm kitchen, two bathrooms and laundry, office and sewing rooms.
