More recently the idea of a small beef herd has emerged. Angus is an obvious choice for the farm. It is a hardy breed and will thrive on the hill country. The cows are highly fertile and make good mothers. The meat is lean and well-marbled with an excellent flavour.
Angus x Speckle Park was a good place to start.
Beef-breeding cows have not been seen on Taruna Farm for decades so we are excited about new possibilities. Not only is it important for us to further diversify into the beef market it's good to know we will be contributing to New Zealand's philosophy of grass-fed and sustainable food.
